Robert Anderson, Founder

 

Rob is an Associate Professor of Law at Pepperdine University School of Law.  Before coming to Pepperdine, Rob earned his Ph.D. from Stanford University and was an associate with Sullivan & Cromwell LLP, an international law firm of over 600 attorneys with preeminent practices in corporate, securities, and mergers and acquisitions transactions. While associated with Sullivan & Cromwell, Rob was a member of the core three-lawyer team that represented NTT DoCoMo in its record-breaking $10 billion investment and strategic alliance with AT&T Wireless. Rob also represented Spieker Properties, Inc. in its $7 billion merger with Equity Office Properties Trust, the largest-ever merger of publicly traded real estate investment trusts.  Rob also acted as the primary supervisory associate on a series of commercial banking acquisitions and securities offering transactions.  Before joining Sullivan & Cromwell, Rob earned a B.A. in Economics-Accounting from Claremont McKenna College and a J.D. from New York University School of Law.

In addition to teaching law, Rob’s other passion is developing solutions to help attorney’s practice law more effectively.  It was this passion that led him to formulate the core ideas that eventually became Exemplify.

 

 Bill Bice, Chief Executive Officer

 

Bill began his computer programming career at the age of 16, when he worked as a consultant in Albuquerque. He started his first business as a freshman in high school.  Over time he expanded his scope and eventually he focused upon the development of ProLaw, a premier law office management software package. Over a decade, Bill built ProLaw into a law office management tool that offered a complete practice management solution for law firms. Under Bill's leadership as President and CEO, ProLaw achieved an average compound annual growth rate of 78% during the last five years as an independent company.  Bill's success with ProLaw culminated in the sale of the company to Thomson West in 2001.

Continuing his career at Thomson, Bill was one of the inventors of West km, which became the most widely used knowledge management system for attorneys.  For his accomplishments in the creation of the West km business, Bill was co-recipient of the Thomson Legal and Regulatory President's Award for innovation.

During his tenure at West, Bill served on the executive committee in the role of President, ProLaw Software and Vice President, Practice Solutions.  He was on the executive team which completed the acquisition of Elite Information Group, a former competitor to ProLaw Software, and led the product strategy team during the integration transition which combined Elite and ProLaw to create the Thomson Elite business unit. Bill continued in a consulting role with the Thomson Corporation as Chief Strategist, Practice Management Products until 2004.

Bill is now a serial entrepreneur and founding partner of Verge Fund.  Joining the founding team at Verge was Bill's route to return to startups.  Bill founded BoomTime, which is focused on providing the online tools to help small, local service businesses compete with the large chains. Through its SpaBoom brand, BoomTime has captured over 20% of the day spa market in less than two years since its marketing launch. Bill also serves on the boards of Vertical Power and Nuvita.

 

GEORGE MAY, PRESIDENT

George has over 25 years of industry experience in legal information, software and technology, with an extensive background in general management, technology and product development.

He began his career as a software engineer for West Publishing.  He led the teams that developed an entirely new generation of content processing and editorial technologies for West, assets that helped attract the interest of the Thomson Corporation, which eventually acquired West in 1996.  After that industry-changing merger, George headed all of the content technology endeavors for the combined companies.  Beyond working on market-leading products such as Westlaw, George’s teams also helped develop KeyCite, widely considered the most important citation research product ever to reach the legal market.

George went on to become Vice President of Online Services for Thomson Legal and Regulatory.  He led the organization that brought Westlaw online services into such markets as the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada and Hong Kong, as well as Latin America and the European continent.  During that assignment, he was also responsible for all global online platforms for the business.  George and his team won the Thomson Legal and Regulatory President’s Award for innovation in global online services.

In his final assignment at Thomson, George was Vice President and General Manager of West Solutions, a suite of software solutions designed to help attorneys work more productively.  That portfolio included West km, the leading knowledge management solution for attorneys.

After leaving Thomson Reuters, George served as Vice President of Product Strategy for Kroll Ontrack, the nation’s largest provider of eDiscovery services, where he was in charge of the company’s new product initiatives and growth strategies. 

George holds a B.A. in Economics and an MBA, both from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul.  He is based in the Twin Cities.

 

SHANNON BROWN JANICKI, VICE PRESIDENT OF CLIENT SERVICES

Shannon Brown Janicki has over 20 years experience in the legal software and services industry.  Her career has been spent implementing complex software systems and processes in professional organizations, specializing in law firms.

Shannon began her career in legal technology at Computer Resource Network, where she was responsible for consulting with law firm clients on document management systems implementation, customization and training.  She later joined ProLaw Software as a consultant and project manager, eventually becoming Director of Client Services for the entire ProLaw product line.  Shannon oversaw the successful implementation and support of ProLaw systems for all sizes of law firms, corporate legal departments and governmental agencies.  Most recently, Shannon took over as the Practice Head for North American Legal Solutions for Tata Consultancy Services, leading the go-to-market strategy and business processes for implementing global ERP solutions for the large law firm market.

In addition to her client services work, Shannon is passionate about education and is an Adjunct Faculty Member at Dominican University where she founded and teaches in the Leadership Certificate program.  She is a frequent contributor to both industry and academic conferences.  

Shannon received her B.A. in Corporate Communications and M.B.A. in Human Resources Training & Development, both from Dominican University in River Forest, IL.  She is currently working towards a Ph.D. in Values Driven Leadership at Benedictine University.  She is based in Chicago.
